Contemplative Arts-in-Practice Series x The Drawing Center, NYC
I met Aimee Good as a fellow perfomer-participant during one of Meredith Monk’s Voice Ensemble Workshops in NYC. Our like-spirited connection was immediate. We spent our lunch break on West Broadway sitting in the sun while deep in conversation about music, art, dance, and teaching through practice and process.
As Director of Education and Community Programs at The Drawing Center, Aimee invited me to bring New York University students in my Yoga and Contemplative Arts course to the gallery. The opportunity beautifully aligned with the curriculum and culmination of our year-long studies. Being held in Joan Jonas’s world of observing, gathering and drawing, as curated in the Animal, Vegetable, Mineral exhibition was a dream landscape for our studies. With room to move and experiment we were invited to get even more curious about process while discovering new elements and pathways in our own art-making practices.
The evidence and impact of our time spent in deep focus and play resulted in a unique experience. Each academic term we will return to engage with new artists and exhibitions.
